„Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award“ is an initiative by Nestlé and the Salzburg Festival in cooperation with the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER.
There are countless vocal and instrumental competitions, but only few opportunities for highly talented young conductors to compete with each other. Nestlé and the Salzburg Festival dedicated themselves to this idea for the promotion of young talents.
The “Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award“ represents yet another project within the framework of the long and intensive partnership between Nestlé and the Salzburg Festival and their artistic youth development programmes.
In the festival season 2011, the prize, which is endowed with EUR 15.000,–, will be awarded for the second time; in the following years the award will also be given annually to a young conductor.
The award winner will moreover get the opportunity to conduct the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER at the Salzburg Festival.
A CD-production of the award winner’s concert will be published within the edition of “Salzburger Festspieldokumente”. This international award is intended to stimulate the future career of the young conductor.
A renowned jury, under the patronage of Pierre Boulez and chaired by Franz Welser- Möst, will choose the candidate. The interpretation of contemporary music, besides the classic-romantic repertoire, will be especially considered in the decision-making.
