Leo McFall is winner of the Deutsche Dirigentenpreis 2015. He was also a finalist in the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2014.
In recent seasons he conducted the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER, Meiningen Hofkapelle, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Chicago Civic, Oulu Sinfonia, Orchestre d'Auvergne and RTVE Orchestra Madrid. He has also worked extensively at the Glyndebourne Festival and Tour, most recently conducting The Turn of the Screw.
From 2012-15 Leo McFall was first Kapellmeister of the Meiningen theatre, where he conducted a wide-ranging operatic and concert repertoire. Future plans include his debuts with Opera North, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as well as a return to Glyndebourne conducting Così fan tutte for the 2018 tour.
From 2009-2013 he worked closely with Bernard Haitink, assisting him in concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw, Chicago Symphony and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras. In 2009, he replaced Mr Haitink in a concert with the Chicago Civic Orchestra, to great acclaim.
A pianist, violinist and violist, Leo McFall has participated in chamber music masterclasses with Krysia Osostowicz and Ferenc Rados.
Since Summer 2013, Leo McFall has been holding the position of assistant conductor at the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER.
