Mikhail Petrenko

Mikhail Petrenko is emerging at the forefront of the new generation of great singers from the Mariinsky Theatre and is already creating quite a stir in Europe and America. The quality of his voice is unmistakable, with its firm resonance and beauty. Surely he will be at the centre of the long tradition of fine Russian basses.

Mikhail's most recent engagements have included the Verdi Requiem with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding, Oedipus Rex conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen also with the Swedish Radio Symphony, Rachmaninov's The Bells with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, his role debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Toulon Opera, Beethoven 9 with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézét-Seguin and Janacek's Glagolitic mass with the NHK Tokyo.
Among his future plans he will sing Hagen in Götterdämmerung with Sir Simon Rattle at the Aix en Province Festival, Salzburg Easter Festival, Deutsche Staatsoper and at La Scala conducted by Daniel Barenboim, Pimen in Boris Godunov and Barbiere di Siviglia at the MET and Gremin in Eugene Onegin conducted by Mariss Jansons and Filippo in Don Carlo conducted by Yannick Nézét-Seguin at the Netherlands Opera.
Future concert work includes Prokofiev’s The Gamblers with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and Hunding in Die Walküre with the Berliner Philarmoniker conducted by Simon Rattle.
He has also recently sung Leporello in a modern film version of Don Giovanni, to be released in 2010.

Mikhail Petrenko appears for the first rime with the GUSTAV MAHLER JUGENDORCHESTER.
